Howto Touchpad Sony Vaio Z series 2010 and Linux

Inserting the kernel parameter:

will make touchpad to work the Vaio Z 2010 (VPCZ11Z93), kernel version is 2.6.31-21.

  1. Resolves same issue on Sony Y-Series (VPCY2; Core i5; mid-2010 edition). Thanks for the tip!

  2. I'm trying to add this to Linux Mint 10 on a Sony Vaio PCG-71311M

    Kinda poking about about in the dark really but so far I have discovered that as this uses Grub 2 I can't add it to menu.lst so i ran..

    $ sudo gedit /boot/grub/40_custom

    added "i8042.nopnp" minus quotes

    saved and closed

    $ sudo update-grub

    it whirred

    $ sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg

    just to have a look expecting my edit to appear below

    ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/40_custom ###

    but there was no change...

    Would you be so kind as to tell me

    a. whether I'm on the right track simply trying to add the "i8042.nopnp" line as above to the grub.cfg file?

    b. anything else you think might help
