brightness control in Acer Timeline laptops

An interesting post in the ubuntuforums about brightness control for 3810T and 4810T Acer Timeline laptops:

Re: Acer Timeline 3810T
In this post[1] Salixman made reference to that the 2.6.30 kernel fixes the problems with backlight (brightness controls) and some networking probs on the 4810T. I am using the 2.6.30 Debian Kernel and I still have broken backlight controls and have to compile Ethernet drivers still.

I think they referring to the latest 2.6.31-rcX[2] kernels that fix the problems.

Linux on Acer Aspire Timeline Launchpad group reaches 50 registered users

Since the Acer Timeline Launchpad group was created 3 months ago, we've reached 50 active memberships, which is an impressing rate for the Linux on ultra-thin category of laptops. At the current rate, the Acer Timeline group will probably be as successful as the Sony Vaio Z-series sooner than later. This two laptops have substantially different characteristics: the Acer Timeline models have phenomenal battery live at the expense of not-so-powerful CPUs. They Sony Vaio Z-series is feature-rich but also substantially more expensive than the Acer Timeline models.

Wednesday count update

In a bit more than 2 months, the Acer Aspire Timeline 3810T/4810T and Linux launchpad group has turned into the second most followed group in the ultra-thin laptops category. This Acer Aspire Timeline series is thus turning into a great seller at a much lower selling price than a lot of its competitors.
